ABOUT US

WHO WE ARE

We are a group of Latinx doulas with a commitment to our community, helping from the heart and showing the entire community that there are people who believe in human love and that we care about the situation they are in.

We respect all people, their beliefs, traditions, and rights in this country. We aim to improve our access to viable sources of income while empowering ourselves as Birth Companions, as well as the pregnant and postpartum mothers we serve, regardless of race, immigration status, religion or gender.

We are doulas with experience and professional training, open to taking on new challenges. Together we are growing with our wisdom.

We are grateful to SF smiles, Baby Love Ministry, and San Francisco Patient Pantry for their support and in-kind donations for mothers, household items, clothing, etc. that allows us to hold monthly baby showers for the clients we serve.

As members of the BCCC board of directors we have been supplementing all expenses: gas, rent, food, decorations, cleaning products, printer ink, transportation costs, copies etc.

OUR GOAL

Our goal is to serve our low income community with respect and culture, helping with prenatal and child development education both virtually and in person. We celebrate baby showers for new mothers who do not have the resources to honor their pregnancy in this way. As professional doulas we offer support throughout the pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum stages with due respect for culture, race, religion, gender and beliefs.

THE DOULA MODEL

We are 22 Latinx Birth Companions, culturally connected to the traditions of Guatemala, Mexico, El Salvador, Honduras, Columbia and Nicaragua. Some of of us work part time jobs while others have a more flexible schedule to support moms with diaper donations, clothes, food pantries, and phone calls.. Those of us with more training are available to facilitate classes. Currently we hold virtual classes for pregnant moms every Saturday as well as a monthly Labor Preparation Workshop every 4th Saturday from 4-5pm. We currently have the capacity to deliver food and essential items every week to 10 moms who recently gave birth with help from ZSFGH pantries donations. We distribute car seats, strollers, diapers, and cribs. We are able to guarantee clothing for babies aged 0-12 months through donations from SF smiles.

Every three months we celebrate a baby shower for 12 mothers who have been unable to finance such a celebration on their own. Some of these mothers live in shelters and are looking for a place to live.
